Recent and Upcoming Lab News and Happenings

Congratulations to Melinda Coogan for winning first prize at the South-Central Chapter Meeting of the Society of Wetland Scientists in Vicksburg, MS, October 5-7, 2006.

Melinda is a Ph.D. Candidate in Dr. LaPoint's lab, and an honorary Stevens' lab member.  Melinda will go on to represent the Chapter at the National Meeting in Sacramento, CA, this summer.   Melinda presented her work, "Algal Bioaccumulation of Antimicrobials in a North Texas Wastewater Treatment Plant Receiving Stream".  Melinda was a great representative of the Institute of Applied Sciences at UNT, well done and thanks.

Melinda is working on lots of projects, and has some great microscopy images that we hope to talk her into posting here soon. 

 

 

Congratulations to Lindsey Brown and Misty Wellner for awards received at the Texas Aquatic Plant Management Society Meeting in Jasper, TX, September 11-13, 2006. 

Misty (left) placed first in the student poster competition for her poster "Presence of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and dark septate endophytes in hydrophytes cultured at the Lewisville Aquatic Ecosystem Research Facility". 

Lindsey's oral presentation, "Impacts of soil sterilization on the performance of five aquatic plants" placed second in the student oral presentation competition.   

This was the first time to present a paper at a conference for both Misty and Lindsey, and both did excellent work - Congratulations and well done!
